Skilled Trades Certification checker for BC contractors
In BC's seven compulsory trades, every worker has to be a certified journeyperson, a registered apprentice or an approved trade qualifier, and apprentices can't outnumber journeypersons more than two to one. Upload your crew list to see who isn't registered and which crews are over the ratio. No email, no signup.

The rules, in short
Which trades are compulsory under BC Skilled Trades Certification?
Seven: Construction Electrician, Industrial Electrician, Powerline Technician, Steamfitter/Pipefitter, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic, Gasfitter Class A and Class B, and Sheet Metal Worker. SkilledTradesBC lists Mobile Crane Operator and Tower Crane Operator as taking effect July 5, 2027.
Who can legally do work in a compulsory trade?
A certified journeyperson, a registered apprentice working under the supervision of a certified journeyperson, or a SkilledTradesBC designated Trade Qualifier or Uncertified Experienced Worker.
What is the apprentice supervision ratio?
SkilledTradesBC sets a maximum supervision ratio of two apprentices to every one journeyperson (2:1).
What do employers have to do?
Verify that workers in compulsory trades are registered apprentices, trade qualifiers or certified journeypersons, keep documentation of their qualifications, keep within the 2:1 supervision ratio, and complete the Employer Workforce Submission in the SkilledTradesBC Portal.
How is it enforced?
SkilledTradesBC randomly selects employers for on-premises spot checks, reviewing records such as redacted payroll and certifications, and uses a graduated approach of remediation action plans, written warnings, compliance orders and administrative monetary penalties.
Does this checker send my crew list anywhere?
No. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded. It is a working aid, not legal advice; SkilledTradesBC's requirements are the authority.

Checking it once is easy. Keeping it true is the job.
Apprentices finish, tickets lapse and crews change every week. Cadre keeps each worker's certifications on their employee record and warns before anything lapses. If you want to hear when Cadre checks trade status and the 2:1 ratio for you, email hello@aevon.ca.
